Rev. Alan McCalister
I enjoy helping people connect with God’s presence in life! That is why I serve as Campus Minister and Executive Director of UCM. My years in college were spent seeking to understand and experience God in a way that could make my faith come alive! A living faith – one that gives purpose to my life and direction for my living – is what I have found in Jesus Christ. My gift to others is simply to share what I have discovered, and to encourage and assist them in their own faith journey. If a living faith that transforms, re-forms and informs your life is something of interest to you, then come to UCM. It is never too late to start the journey!
Before coming to UCM, I spent many years working as a computer technician and serving congregations as an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). I play soccer, have a passion for music and movies, and like to tell really corny jokes! However, I am not joking when I say that I am deeply honored to serve with the students whose faith, heart-felt commitment, and hard work are the heart of this ministry. I love the feeling of family – of community – at UCM. I am moved by the deep caring and commitment of the students who follow and serve Jesus Christ. I hope you will come to UCM and let them touch your heart with the love they share in Jesus Christ!
Dana Rostowfske
I am a senior at UWM and getting ready to graduate in May with a Mass Communication degree. I am also working at a very popular
organization at UWM, Be On the Safe Side (B.O.S.S) and have been carting around students for the past three years. When I’m not working at UCM and B.O.S.S I love working out, taking free classes across campus, hanging out with friends, riding horses with my family and playing with my adorable cats. My new job here at University Christian Ministries is the Administrative Assistant and Lunch Bunch Coordinator and I am very excited to see what this year has in store for me as my first year as an intern. My goal is to create an atmosphere at UCM that is comfortable for anyone and everyone who is interested in meeting new people around campus, finding a new adventure with Christ, or just to come and relax with some pretty cool people during Lunch Bunch. UCM prides ourselves in accepting students with many different faiths and really focusing on coming together as a group and growing together.
Caila Ney
Hi, I am Caila! I am a super senior at UWM. I am studying to be an Elementary Education teacher. I am now in block II of the program. At times it can be tough, and at other times the children just make me smile with some of the stuff they say to me! I play rugby for the UWM women’s team, sad to say, this will be my last semester playing with the girls. I like to run outside in the summer time, and I enjoy being in the water and on the beach soaking up the sun. I enjoy laughing and spending time with my friends.
I have been working with UCM since the fall of 2006! I started at UCM as an intern and for two years I was an intern and did youth directing at Faith UCC. The third year I was with UCM I was the Lunch Bunch Coordinator and administrative assistant. This past year I have just been working as an intern and youth directing at Faith. One of my favorite things to do at UCM is to plan the annual mission trip. I have been planning the mission trip for about four years now. It’s a lot of work, but in the end it is worth all the effort that you put into planning the trip. I have really enjoyed working at UCM these past couple of years. The team of interns is so supportive and soon enough they become your extended family. It is so nice to sit and have dinner with them on Sunday nights. I have really enjoyed UCM and I hope you will too!
Steven Carter
My name is Steven Carter and I am 30 years old and an extended Senior at Lakeland College in Sheboygan County. You may be asking yourself, what is he doing here. Well, the answer to said question is that I am a religion major at Lakeland and am classified as a pre-seminary student. As part of my graduation requirements I get the privilege to participate in a class called Senior Practicum. This is, very simply, a non-paid internship offering seniors field experience in a particular area of ministry that they would like to explore, so that they may determine if that is truly an area that they are called to by God to serve in or not. Which brings me back to UCM. Rev. Alan and the board have been gracious enough to offer me the opportunity to explore Campus ministry as the UCM Ministry Intern, which is an area of ministry that I have felt called to since I started at Lakeland 2 years ago. God has taken me on this wonderful ride into ministry and I cannot wait to see what God has in store for me in this coming semester.
Just some personal stuff about me. Beyond school, I work full time for a company that assistance adults with developmental disabilities and have been doing so for the past four years. Consequently, it was here that I met my wife of four years, Sarah. I feel I am an easy going guy and I am always ready for a conversation. If there is anything I can help you with please let me know. I like movies – almost as much as my wife; music; dancing; and reading. Of course that is not everything about me, but I hope enough that you get an idea of who I am. I hope to see you around.
Juliana Henry
I am a senior at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee studying harp performance and information resources. Besides practicing and working on the computer, I work for the UWM music library and serve at Water St. Brewery. I have been going to UCM for two years now, but this is my first year as an intern. In my spare time (the little there is) I like to catch up with friends and read.
Sigrid Degner
Hey Everyone! My name is Sigrid and I’m a senior at UWM. I’m just finishing up my last semester for my history major and plan on studying
abroad in Germany in the Spring! When I’m not studying, I like spending time with my friends, dancing in my German folkdancing group, and of course, volunteering with UCM! An intern got me involved in the Mission trip to Texas last year and thanks to her, I am now an intern for UCM. I look forward to meeting new people and making new friends!
Bridget Podnar
Hi my name is Bridget Podnar and this is my second semester being part of UCM. My first semester at UCM I helped set up lunch bunch and plan fun events that involved getting UWM student up and away from the books for a while. This semester God might have a different plan for me since my availibility is a bit less than before. Along with this being my second semester at UCM it is also my second semester at UWM. I am an Ultrasound Tech major and I do two years of schooling here at UMW and the last two years of schooling in Madison. Since I have been involved with UCM I have met lots of fun people who have kind hearts and spunky personalities. This ministry has helped me get plugged in to the campus and grow in my faith. If you are looking to meet some new people or if you are a tiny bit curious about what God has in store for you then stop by UCM and there is bound to be someone there eating lunch bunch leftovers, studying, or hanging out. Hope to see you soon!
Chela Tetzlaff
Hello my name is Chela Tetzlaff I am a sophmore at UWM majoring in Psychology. This is my first year at UCM and I am very excited to be involved in the program! I can not wait to get started!
Kimberly Pillman
Hi, my name is Kimberly Pillman and I am in my third year at UWM. I am a dance and art major with an emphasis in jewelry. I hope to dance professionally for as long as I can then one day own my own jewelry line! I enjoy playing most sports, doing activities outdoors and doing a variety of arts and crafts. This is my first year as an intern with UCM and I am looking forward to it!
Corrine Chaplo
My name is Corrine and I’m from Janesville, but spend my summers in Lake Geneva to work and enjoy the lake of course! For the past two years
I have attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, but due to a program’s change of prerequisites I have recently transferred to UWM. I’ve been a busy bee all Summer and will do the same this upcoming year to get everything done so that I can be eligible for the Ultrasound Sonography program offered through the University Hospital in Madison and get back to the city I love by next fall! I enjoy playing tennis, running, making people smile, and acting goofy!
