Why Are You A Christian?

Why Are You A Christian?

I can’t imagine living without hearing from Jesus and being with him. I’ve been trying to leave every decision up to him. He makes me more present.

-Matthew

I attended church since I was very young, but it wasn’t until college that I discovered Jesus Christ was not simply some religious hero from the past, but a risen, living presence who seeks to bring fulfillment to my life – and to everybody’s life – today. I have learned from Christ not only what God is truly like, but what human life is intended to be. It is my joy to share what it is like to live the awesome, victorious life Christ offers, and to allow my life to be a channel of God’s amazing love for all the world.

If you were standing in a courtroom guilty of an unspeakable crime, about to be sentenced to execution, but someone ran in and said that they would take the punishment for you, what would you do/think? Jesus did that — I’m a Christian because I feel God’s love in my life, and I love Him, and through Him I’ve learned how to love others unconditionally. Many see Christianity as just a religion of rules, and there are rules, as there is in anything. But as a Christian, I want to listen to my Heavenly Father because — like a parent instructs their child out of love on what’s best for them regarding their safety, health, well-being and even joy– God knows what’s best for me and what will be the result of my actions. I may not always agree at the time with what God wants me to do, just like I didn’t always heed my parents’ warnings growing up — like “Don’t touch that hot stove!” — but following him always turns out to be the right choice and I’m glad I did because God’s looking out for me and like the hot stove warning. following Christ also means you won’t get burned.

Being a Christian has brought so many blessings into my life. God loves me for who I am, not what I do. To feel such a pure form of unconditional love is amazing and through Jesus, I can do whatever God the Father has planned for me.
